Massage Therapy in DC for Every Body

Bring actively inclusive massage therapy back to DC

Massage is not a luxury, it’s a vital form of care. But the pandemic pushed DC’s only radically inclusive massage practice to shut down in 2021 – and the average spa does not provide affirming care for every body. Now, Rhizome Bodyworks is bringing back a space for affirming, socially conscious, therapeutic bodywork in our community, and we need your help to get off the ground.

A Place for Outsiders, Weirdos, and Every Body

Rhizome Bodyworks is explicitly designed with large bodies, visibly trans and queer people, and people of color who bear the brunt of social stigma in mind. We believe at a core level that there is no wrong way to have a body. Every body deserves access to safe and affirming touch.

I walked in and immediately felt welcome, accepted, seen, and safe. Any one of those is rare for me so all at once was overwhelmingly amazing. Vanessa was wonderful and helped put me at ease and enjoy my massage. It’s a magical place and I’ll definitely be back.
My experience was unlike any other massage experience I’ve had. As a fat woman, I feel not only like I am allowed to take up space but that I am entitled to. It is the most body positive space I’ve ever been in, and being there makes me feel good about engaging in self care.
This is the only trauma-informed, queer-competent medical treatment I’ve ever received.
